The Museo Civico di Rieti is located inside the Town hall in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, in Rieti. The Museo is divided in two sections: the Archaeological one and the Historical-Artistic one.
In both these areas, the value of what is here preserved is inestimable. In the Archaeological section, there are findings dating from the XII century BC to the XIII century AC, sorted by their intended use. The Historical-Artistic section is the one preserving paintings and sculptures. Among the most important civilian architectures of the city, the Town hall itself definitely deserves a visit. This building, dating back to the XIII century, was build in a late-Baroque style, and in its halls it preserves a bust depicting Giuseppe Garibaldi and one in honour of Vittorio Emanuele II. During the years, the Palace has been expanded: in fact, on his right wing, you can see a 5-floor tower, travertine-lined, dating back to the expansion works of 1940. Those who visit the Palace and the Museum can't miss the Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II (Vittorio Emanuale II Square), the center of the city which opens on the ancient Roman Court area, where the first settlements were. To taste the art and history of these attractions, park your vehicle in the Oberdan-Mazzini parking lot, located in the adjacent Piazza Mazzini. By parking your car here, you'll also be able to enjoy the medieval allure you can breathe while walking among Rieti's suggestive streets.
