The Piazza del Popolo square is the heart of Ascoli. In a Renaissance style, its porticos and architecture make it one of the best places in the city.
Here we can soak up lots of culture and history without having to move an inch. The Piazza is a reflection of the city’s social life. In the morning it is occupied by tourists, while towards the evening and nighttime the locals begin to settle in. There is always a constant flow of people. The Renaissance-style Palace of the Captains of the People and Archaeological Area is located in the town centre, whose construction dates back to the thirteenth century. We can admire its statues, clocks and bell tower. To the right of it is the Caffè Meletti, a bar that is famous in the city and in all of Italy that was inaugurated in 1907. Ernest Hemingway, the famous American writer, has passed through its doors. Getting a drink here will make you feel equally as important. This is a great opportunity, perhaps even the best, to take a break during your busy day and watch as people come and go with a cup of coffee in your hand.At the other end of the Piazza is the Church of San Francesco. This Gothic church began construction in the thirteenth century, and it takes visitors on a trip back in time. In addition to its facade, it has interesting side entrances replete with many details. To really get the most out of your time here, you can park your vehicle at our Saba car park located on Torricella. It is open 24 hours a day and offers premium facilities with many different amenities. This is a great starting point from where you can visit the city centre and explore it on foot.
