The Stazione di Venezia Mestre is the most important railway station in Venice.
Located in the centre of Mestre, the station is the point of origin of other lines that converge towards Venice, and is managed by the Rete Ferroviaria Italiana company. The station began operating in 1842 with a single line from Mestre to Bassano, and since then its services and facilities have grown to become one of the largest and most important in all of Italy. At the Mestre station there is also an extensive bus network in addition to trains that will allow you to travel throughout the country. This place is an important spot for tourism and therefore has several restaurants located nearby, as well as a Saba car park where you can easily leave your car. This car park, located between Via Dante and Viale Stazione, is available 24 hours a day, and both its location and its facilities are designed to offer the visitor high-quality services. Near the station you will find a beautiful public garden known as the Giardini di Via Piave, and just a few streets away is the large Parco Piraghetto park, inside which is the city's amusement park for children. This city's station is comprised of four tracks. From here, you can reach the Venezia Santa Lucia central station, passing over the Liberty Bridge. The lines that pass through this station are as follows: from Milan to Venice, Venice to Udine, Venice to Trieste and finally from Adria to Mestre.

Mestre doesn’t have a historic centre as such, instead the most important tourist sights are scattered throughout the city. For example, in the upper part of the city you will find the Piazza Ferretto square, next to which is St Mark’s Clocktower. A few streets down is the old Corso Theatre, with an extensive programme throughout the year. Finally, near the port of Marghera is Forte Marghera, a beautiful spot that is a favourite among tourists due to the spectacular views it offers.
