The historical origins of the Museo della Cartiera Papale (Papal Paper Mills Museum) of the city of Ascoli Piceno dates to medieval times, with statements that later talk about how Pope Giulio della Rovere wanted the restoration and ampliation of the buildings.
The beautiful structure today houses a scientific research pole with educational workshops and temporary science, art and technology exhibitions. On the upper floors there are rooms with reconstructions of the Porta Cartara mills and halls that preserve mineral, shells, and fossil collections from the pharmacist Antonio Orsini, native of Ascoli. The Museum offers families naturalistic routes in the surrounding area and along the Torrente Castellano stream, which provided the mills of the Paper mill with water. The Cartiera can be reached by the A14: thanks to Saba, youll be able to park in Ascoli at the Torricella and Ex Gil parking lots.

During your visit to Ascoli Piceno, you must go for a walk through the old town. The entire centre of Ascoli has been built with a special type of marble called travertine, however the city’s crown jewel is really the Renaissance-style Piazza de Popolo, considered to be one of the most beautiful squares in all of Italy. In the city centre, you will find a Saba car park where you can easily park your car.
