Adjacent to Piazza Bra, the Gran Guardia (Great Guard) majestically rises. The building was started during the XVII century, but it was only finished in the first half of the 1800’s.
The building’s paternity has been ascribed to the designer Domenico Curtoni, grandson of the famous architect from Verona Michele Sanmicheli. Today, the building is used to house exhibitions and meetings. Thirteen arcs make up the colonnade, strongly influenced by a chiaroscuro impression; the top is composed by fifteen glass windows alternating with double, classic columns. The palace embellishes the south side of Piazza Bra, located in the middle of the historic city center. Because of this, visiting the square and the Gran Guardia calls for parking the car and taking a walk. From here one can move through Verona’s many streets, rich with art, and enrich his or her own cultural baggage without limits. To enjoy the city’s attractions and beauties stress-free, we can suggest you three different parking lots near Piazza Bra which will give you the possibility to reach your car easily. The Arena parking lot in via M. Bentegodi n. 8, the Isolo parking lot in via Ponte Pignolo n. 6, and the Arsenale parking lot in Piazza Arsenale n. 8, all three located near the historic city center. Only the last one is an outdoor parking lot.
