At the feet of the Colle San Pietro (San Pietro Hill) there’s the Teatro Romano di Verona (Verona’s Roman Theater). Unfortunately, today only the cavea, the steps, the various arcades and important remains of the antique set, along with the head walls of the building dating to the I century BC, are visible.
The Teatro Romano di Verona is considered the most important roman theater in northern Italy. Besides the numerous antique remains of the theater, on this scenic hill where it rises can also be found buildings from previous and more recent times. An air of antiquity encircles this suggestive place, and you’ll surely notice it. By the reconstructed loggia of the theater you’ll get, through an elevator, inside the archeological museum located since 1924 in the former San Girolamo monastery. This museum, with the theater’s beauty and the natural sight the hill offers, is a must-see in Verona, because here the sprit and the history that made this city a glorious one are very well preserved. Being adjacent to the historic city center, visiting the hill and its antique remains will almost be automatic. You’ll just have to park your car nearby: in fact, Verona offers various parking lots around the historical city center, to facilitate the travelers who wish to visit the city. We suggest you the Arena parking lot in via M. Bentegodi n. 8, the Isolo parking lot in via Ponte Pignolo n. 6 and the Arsenale parking lot in Piazza Arsenale n. 8; all three will offer you the opportunity to leave your car not far from you and leave all the stress caused by traffic with it.
