One of the most beautiful and important tourist attractions in Verona is located on Via Cappello and is a must-see for anyone who loves literature and history.
The medieval building was the home of the Cappello family, who gave the street on which it is located its name. And according to popular beliefs, William Shakespeare’s famous play ‘Romeo and Juliet’ was inspired by this location. The legend fuelled by the inhabitants of Verona is that Julieta Capuleto grew up in this house. For this reason, in the house’s garden there is a life-size statue of the literary character that Shakespeare created. Next to the statue of Juliet is the famous balcony which, according to the story by the English playwright, Juliet looked out from to hear Romeo’s declaration of love.Inside the home, tourists can appreciate decorations and clothing from the era, as well as the bed that was used in the ‘Romeo and Juliet’ version by the Italian filmmaker, Franco Zeffirelli.A few metres from this point of interest in the Piazza Francesco Viviani square is Verona’s Teatro Nuovo, an impressive opera house that also has a movie theatre. To visit this place and its different cultural attractions, we recommend parking your car at one of our Saba car parks. The closest for visiting this area is located on Via Marcantonio Bentegodi, in front of the Verona Arena. This public car park has modern facilities and is open 24 hours a day.
